A taxi driver has told a court how he was first to arrive at a crash near Carlisle in which a teenager died.
Daniel Taylor, 17, of Eastriggs, in Dumfries and Galloway was killed when his car struck a tree in July 2006.
Ivan Tailford told Carlisle Crown Court he stopped to investigate after seeing smoke coming from a group of trees.
Thomas Glendinning, of Quinton Place, Springfield, and Dwayne Barnes, of Roundbush Gardens, Annan, both 18, have denied charges of dangerous driving.
Mr Tailford told the court how he went to look more closely among trees near the A6 at Carleton on 29 July, 2006.
Inside he found a badly damaged Peugeot 106 in which Daniel Taylor died.
Mr Tailford said that shortly before the accident he saw two small hatchbacks - similar to those being driven by the defendants - driving "very fast" up London Road.
Just minutes later he drove up the same road and came across the fatal crash.
The court previously heard claims by the prosecuting barrister that the young men may have been racing.
The trial continues.
