Has anybody else received abysmal service from fowlers motors in staffordshire. After seeing their advert in The private hire and monthly, i bought a 55 plate passat over the telephone. It came with two baldy tyres which after 3 months i got the money for. I then bought my wife a brand new pt cruiser and then part exchanged the passat for a five series BMW. They cashed in the tax after agreeing to leave it on. No big deal except they sent the full log book to the dvla, No road tax = No work, hence no money. Then came the big surprise, after 3 months the finance company informed me they are taking me to court for non payment of the passat i part exchanged. Fowlers took £4500 of my money and were supposed to put another £8500 to it to clear the finance. They have since sold the car, and four months down the line still haven't paid it up. Trading standards looked quite positive until i told then that for my sins i drove a taxi for a living, whole new ball game and i have to get a solicitor to deal with it as they have no power.
Sorry for ranting but i am well hacked off because my credit rating is now knackered for the next six years because i am supposedly 4 months behind on payments for a car i no longer own.
I can't be the only poor sod ripped off by these bandits so please get in touch to help my court case

Cab direct ive never heard of them doing that, news to me,
To be serious the best company by far are the Taxi Centre Glasgow, 1 years union membership, free gap insurance, half price credit protection, free delivery in the mainland UK, and you are in possession of the vehicle for one month before you make a payment, why would anyone go elswhere??????
Had a chat with Dean 132 today could possibly help him, cant go into details would spoil the plot, but weve crossed swords with this shower before, highly successfully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope -never bought a car from fowlers and never will.
I asked them for a quote and when I suggested it was a bit on the high side the salesman put the phone down on me!
Ace bit of customer service son!
Decided to buy my Superb from The Taxi Centre in Glasgow ( even if I am from Edinburgh ), this was long before I joined the GMBPDB and I didn't get the benefit of all the add-ons.
I ordered a Classic as I couldn't afford a Comfort but I wanted extras such as Cruise control. Everything went splendidly and I can thoroughly recommend the Taxi Centre. I will be buying my next car from them.....they do what they say in the ads!!!! |

Glad you made those points Allo Allo because it proves that the Taxi Centre weren’t just being nice to me because I help out in the branch they genuinely are the best around
I had a mate who got a motor from Fowlers, unfortunately he passed away two years ago, but this mob are something else, the car was a bucket and Christ knows how much money he lost being off of the road so frequently and the clown prince is recommending them.
Just this small thread gives you an idea of what could be achieved as we all raise one another’s level of understanding about what the score really is in the industry.
No wonder all the two bob spiv's in the industry are cacking it they all know their days are numbered once we all start joining up and start working to build a really effective union branch

Just a quick update. After getting legal advice i have instructed Lombard to take me to court and introduce Fowlers as a third party. Brief says not a court in the land will find against me in this case.
After talking to the private hire association i found out the bailiffs were going into Fowlers to lift enough stock from then after another taxi driver in the same boat won £14,000 compensation for the damage to his reputation and credit file.
The fight is far from over but i now feel positive.

I'm new to this site but really need some advise and hope, lots of hope along with some help please. Not surprised though to see others have been screwed by Fowlers
Anyone one able to help, these theiving bar stewards Fowlers have had me over for £9000 so far, took a Jag S Type from me on a 52 Plate Feb 07 as part x for another vehicle and did a runner with £4500 cash also. Now paying the finance for new vehicle but not the old one with Bank of Scotland as they should have paid it off.
Back in Reading Court, 10am on Monday 11th August 2008 and just recieved Bank of Scotlands solicitors bill today £2,481.20 from DWF of Manchester. The £9000 debt has now become just short of £11, 500.
Liza Lipsom, PHTM contacted Fowlers on our behalf and on 16th June some Doris call LauraB at Fowlers confirmed that they had the Jaguar and £4500 and was in the process of paying Bank of Scotand.

Subject: RE: Hart Taxis V Cabs and Buses
Hi Liza
I have an arrangement with the Bank of Scotland to settle the outstanding amount in full. I have advised them that we have the vehicle. I have now been given a correct settlement figure from them which includes all interest and chargers from the day Cabs took the vehicle in part exchange. I will write to Mr Sherriff and explain the best I can.
Apologies to you for your having to get involved.
Kind Regards
Laura
I love the little bit, I will write to Mr Sheriff. The lying cow has refused to take any calls from me or to answer email. To add insult to injury the divvies they call a sales team bombard me all time to ask if we'd like to purchase a vehicle.
My reply is always the same. NO, I'D LIKE MY F***ING MONEY BACK.
Please if anyone can help, or knows of someone who can I'd much appreciate it. You can contact me at Hart Taxis on 01252 616149
According to DWF Solicitors I'm stil legall bound to pay back Bank of Scotand plus interest and costs even though Fowlers admit to ripping everyone off.

Hi all,
I really don't know what to say, what I've read in this thread is genuinely shocking to me!
I bought a car from Fowlers Motors about 4 years ago. Maybe they've changed a bit over the years. But they paid for my train fare, met me at the station, treated me really well, the car was immaculate and I had no problems with it. (Are we really talking about the same firm?)
I'll agree they were pricey and the interest level on the high side, but I had a lousy credit rating, little spare cash and accepted I'd pay through the nose wherever I went. And, on those odd occasions I found I was'nt able to meet a payment - I just called up their accounts dept and they were so helpfull. As long as I could catch up quickly, having to skip a payment was ok. That helped me a lot!
This is the point where I'd normally say I have no hesitation in recommending them - but what people have posted in this thread is so surprising - and not the Fowlers I knew - that I don't know what to say. I am (was?) considering getting another car from them shortly...
Who I certainly can't recommend are Cab Direct / Allied Vehicles. I won't say why for now as I've still got to take them to court for quite a significant sum. Even after reading this thread in its entirety, Cab Direct makes Fowlers look like a knight in shining armour by comparison!
Maybe the Taxi Centre is the answer...!
Kindest regards
Rae |

RAE,seems that the drivers are finally waking up! you have named the two worst exploiters of car sales. We at the GMBPDB have succesfully taken action against them on behalf of our members. the only car service/sales that we recommend is THE TAXI-CENTRE see previous posts on this subject.".Dont fall foul of fowlers"

| I'm sorry to hear about your encounter Fowlers, I was once looking to buy a vehicle from them also and was treated like scum, as if my business ment nothing to them and would personally never go back. If I was to offer any advice from experience it would be to deal with Patons Taxiworld. I recently saw on their website (www.patonstaxiworld.com) that they were selling an epica for £10 995, having seen an epica recently in a showroom and being very impressed i thought i would phone them up and find out what the catch was, as i knew they would never be selling a car with this spec at that price. I was quite surprised though to find that that was the price no hidden costs, INCLUSIVE of VAT too! PLUS the car came with a CCTV system already built into it which i'm told is sold at £600!!! Anyway i guess i'm just saying that this deal blew me away and i had to tell someone about it. All the best with future business and if you are buying a car i do strongly recommend Patons. |
