Hi all. This is an invitation to the Upfront Taxi Show 2008, at Gateshead Stadium on March 29th 2008. Huge selection of exhibitors in huge indoor arena. This is also a family fun day with lots to do. Golf Open, Giant Scalextric GP and even activities for the children!

I will remind you all nearer the time. Oh, I nearly forgot, there is also a free gift for all taxi drivers attending (and no, its not just a pen!)

Thanks, Paul.

Hey, I love your meandering questions/statements!!

Show is at Gateshead Stadium. No entry fee - just turn up. The free gift is nothing more than thanks for coming and helping make the show a success - this could be more or less a national show on a large scale right on our doorstep, so good for us all.

Most of the major car/taxi dealers will be there alongside the usual insurance, meters, and other associated businesses.

Buying from a show IS the cheapest way to buy a new taxi, I know that much.

All are welcome - the whole family - there will be a magician for the children and ballons and all sorts - and scalextric grand prix for the parents!

We just want everyone to have a great day!

Nothing more.

Regards, Paul.

its a money maker for the organisers. its not about us drivers. it will be done by a few owner operators trying to make more money at our expense I heard the NTA are involved maybe its away of the meeting of minds raising funds

If you will excuse me getting to the point: you are the one talking rubbish. NTA? Nope, making pots of cash? Nope. Trying to better myself and colleagues? Maybe.

You seem a very sad and lonely kind of person.

Never mind, cheer up.

So who's going then ?

Howay if nothing else it will be a place for us all to meet !
It will be the perfect opportunity for all the closet keyboard posters to say hello to one another.

Why don't we all make it a day out ?

I am in no way part of the promotion team, in-fact I knew balls all about it until I read this post.

Howay..why not ? lets see ya ugly mugs....lol

And I wish you lot would bloody shut up about union representation !

Look the facts they are simple !

What do we want ? Regional representation in our hour of need ( Yes )
What do we not want to hear when you become a member of a union ?  That is a regional issue sorry ! ( OK agree ) ?
So don't be negative on a meeting when the NTA is going to be present...make it more of an opportunity to ask the questions that you want answers to !
I Also think the GMB should also be present at meetings like this....then people can hear what these associations and unions have to say and what they really stand for.....
( How will they fight our corners and improve our trade ?)

But lets not be negative and prejudice against things we really know nothing about and only go on hear say comments ! from who ? Drivers that think they know it all !..... Come on...Lets begin to see the sky beyond the fog !

Give us all a chance to speak ! we do deserve it ! So why not lets see if we can make this a day of all days...( Maybe a day in Taxi History ) where we can all attend and be professional but listen to each others point of view and then decide what representation we decide to take on board !
maybe we can have TDO reps ( Our famous "over" educated JD and reps from our very own forum HERE ) Why not ? We are all on the same side....

We all have the same needs yes...but we all seem to have different objectives and needs that cause disrupt and argumentative situations amongst us...hence making our trade look shit !

Why don't we make this event an opportunity to unite ?

I will be curious to your reply's...as this can surely not be in any way negative !..

But I am also sure you will find the negative issues and bring it to a head
It seems to be the norm in the trade ! maybe thats why we get no further forward......?

I would also suggest that someone posts on TDO and makes it clear that there is a definite invite to this meeting.

Thanks Bandit. All we are doing is trying to bring a show to our area instead of having to go to Coventry etc. I do hope all of the posters on all the forums take the opportunity to meet each other - maybe for breakfast at mcdonalds next door to venue?

In case you all turn up I will have extra security!!

And I have nothing to do with any union except the PCS which is nothing to do with taxis!!

There will be no unions at the show as far as I know.

Cheers.

it always makes me wonder why people consider their own time to be more valuable than other peoples. putting something on costs time to organise and the people who organise it deserve to be paid

I would like to think it is to raise our standards!
Promote our trade and make it more professional!

Its a good thing you are organizing and I wish you all the best of luck.

NOT WHEN IT COSTS EXHIBITORS MONEY TO ATTEND AND THESE COSTS ARE PASSED ON TO US THE DRIVERS / OWNERS

who do you think pays for it in the end !!!!!!!  come on are you all that thick you dont get anyhing for nothing.

we're all kicking off about fuel costs going up and we want a increase in fares to cover it. so dont you think these people bringing their cars and insurance etc will do the same ?

lets look at the exhibitors costs which are quite obvious.

over night accomodation per person going £55 per head per night  as an example

cost of exhibiting £.........

cost of taking vehicles or other eqpt. per car £150 just to get there and back

wages £..... per person per day

lost time out of office £...........

while at show no one in office doing normal daily work....£  [lost time and money that cant be replaced]

meals ...£

overtime ...£

Cost of Stand £.....

 set up and take down...£

a good gesture would be use the proceeds to fund cctv or other safety measures in the local area. maybe this would then be a worth while exercise and you may just of started something that could become a national fund raiser ?

im guessing cab direct wouldnt get any change from £10,000 that means they'd need to sella minimum of 10 cars on the day to just break even / to cover their costs

an insurer with 2 staff  probably will have a total cost of £1,800 -  £2,000 which probably means about  8 - 10 policies minimum would need to be sold on the day to break even.

now how can it be cheaper on the day....... ?

can someone explain how it is ?

i've been going to Telford and  Coventry for a few years now, and i speak to the exhibitors every year, they say how much it costs and how cheaper things would be if people used the magazines or came to them direct. another comon denominator is that they all say nothing or very little is actually sold on the day, and its hard to evaluate whats the benefit over a period of time.

organising a get together for the drivers is highly comendable but dont go disguising it as your doing us all a favour and getting us all cheaper prices when your blatantly not.
