hi

im hoping some one can give me some good advice my husband has worked for the same employer for 10 years he has now been told he has to become self employed as his employer no longer wishes to pay his tax, NI or holiday pay

that he will be paid 50 quid per shift but he has to pay his own NI and tax

now what i cant get my head around is how can he be self empolyed when he had NO car payment or Rank  or fuel to pay

my husband has no hassle in becoming self employed but is this illegal would he be in fact self employed ??   any help in me getting this in my brain will be a big help thank in advance

I don't think there is anything illegal about it, have a word with tax office they should be able to put you right.

i can only offer the obvious solution phone the job centre and they will point you in right direction
or better still go or phone your local citizens advice centre

Good advice above, best to contact the tax office or employment service / citizens advice bureau for the proper advice.

I think it depends on what the job is, but one thing I do know is that the Inland Revenue are cracking down on self employed people in cetrain trades.
If you work exclusively for one client but on a self employed basis it can be difficult to prove self employed status & if they see fit the Inland Revenue can come after the client for tax and NI on the earnings of the worker. Worth looking into because if he is working just for that one client the IR may deem him employed even when he registers as self employed.
