Hi All,
Is TaxiDriver Online still going or is this a re-incanation.
Taxi forums seem to follow the same pattern:-
lightly disguised adverts for generally crappy or useless inventions, books, cost saving devices etc.
vintage and or unfunny jokes,
morons that reply to every single posting with often inane comments,
they are usually run by well meaning people that have far to much time on their hands and very low self esteem,
Why can't they be like proper web sites, with high definition porn, gambling, viagra adverts, all the things bored operators really need on a quiet day like today.

Hi Search Eng can't find it !!
HA... that makes me smile (but not laugh)... It was just a year ago when a certain know-it-all idiot was boasting about how Google has a "modicum of artificial intelligence" "able to tell the difference between "the real thing" and a Fake".
That particular individual even quoted keywords phrases like "taxi forum +uk" and "taxi driver +uk" to highlight his point. I noted at the time the use of the plus sign to improve the position, but neglected to mention that I have never seen someone us a + in a search bar.
So here's some interesting search engine results:
Keyword
"Taxi Forum" Google #1, Yahoo #3
"Taxi Forums" Google #1, Yahoo #1 & 2
"Taxi Forum UK" Google #2. Yahoo #1 & 4
"Taxi Forums UK" Google #1, Yahoo #1 & 3
"Taxi Driver Forum" Google #3, Yahoo #1 & 4
"Taxi Driver Forums" Google #1 & 2, Yahoo #1 & 2
"Taxi Driver Forum UK" Google #2 & 3, Yahoo #1 & 2
"Taxi Driver Forums UK" Google #1, Yahoo #1 & 2
"Taxi Drivers Forum" Google #1 & 2, Yahoo #1 & 6
"Taxi Drivers Forum UK" Google #1, Yahoo #1 & 2
I also humorously recall that when this particular individual threw a rattle out the pram he removed our links from their site to a number of my other sites in an attempt to highlight his stupidity. Well, I now notice that this site has a PR3, my other sites have PRs3-4 and yet they appear to have dropped to a PR1.
I think the saying goes... "Those that laugh last, laugh loudest"... well... when I ready to start laughing... I shall surely report back because it's going to be an absolute howler |

Ah Ha....a quick google and all is revealed
Google searches more sites more quickly, delivering the most relevant results. Introduction Google runs on a unique combination of advanced hardware and software. The speed you experience can be attributed in part to the efficiency of our search algorithm and partly to the thousands of low cost PC's we've networked together to create a superfast search engine. The heart of our software is PageRank™, a system for ranking web pages developed by our founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin at Stanford University. And while we have dozens of engineers working to improve every aspect of Google on a daily basis, PageRank continues to play a central role in many of our web search tools. PageRank Explained PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at considerably more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; for example, it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important." Using these and other factors, Google provides its views on pages' relative importance. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines dozens of aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query. Integrity Google's complex automated methods make human tampering with our search results extremely difficult. And though we may run relevant ads above and next to our results, Google does not sell placement within the results themselves (i.e., no one can buy a particular or higher placement). A Google search provides an easy and effective way to find high-quality websites that contain information relevant to your search. |

Well hello Denise, nice to hear from you again
I am sure Pete will be able to answer your questions.
Obviously TDO is more "active" than this one, whether it is better is down to personal taste, I find it a bit "dry" at times. |

Is there anyone who thinks that the people on TDO give a flower how many visitors, how many hits or how many pages they get?
Or on what page of google they appear on?
Why does anyone think they would care? Don't do advertising, don't do sucking up to the vehicle suppliers.
If people don't want to go on TDO, then there are plenty other places for them to go. Aren't there? |

Ah... that'll teach me
So many questions... in short, the higher the number the better the page rank. It is far more complicated than that [I will add a link here for anyone really interested].
With regards to what's best... that's for users to decide not us to dictate...
And again, activity, as Hopper rightly points out, can be measured in many ways... Unique users, page impressions, user interactions etc... As I am not privy to that information for other sites I can't comment. I'm sure all forums suffer from the same problem that an awful lot more users browse compared to join in.
With regards to Terry's questions, I can only assume the answer is yes... My little smile was in retort to comments made about our site 12 months ago...(less than a month after we started). Now if they did not feel the points you made were relevant back then, why would they use them to slate? I actually have no quarrel with the guys over there, they are of no interest or significance to me... it's just one should always be careful when you mock or promiscuous woman someone off... it invariably comes back to bite you in the arse.
All the best, Pete |
