All,

For those of us who have decided to invest in our future and have bought new cars I find it unacceptable that some taxi's can fail basic checks and they are of poor condition.
Taxi ban shock - Recently almost four out of five taxis tested in a spot check in Nelson were banned from the roads because of serious faults.
Just four of the 18 vehicles passed the test. The other 14 were suspended and had their Pendle Council taxi plates taken away there and then.
A Pendle Council spokeswoman said: "The main reasons were tyres, steering and brakes. The majority of the necessary work was done that evening or the following day and they were back on the road. Only one remained off the road.
Mr Mohammed Akram, chairman of the Pendle Taxi Operators' Association, said: "Taxis all have the same problems across the country. We are doing what we can and we are co-operative.
"A full report is going to the April meeting of the council's Taxi Licensing Committee. Coun. Allan Buck, the council's Executive member responsible for taxi licensing, has arranged a meeting with the Pendle Taxi Drivers'  Association to discuss the issues.

I for one have recently invested in nearly new Peugeot estate car and feel that the standard of some vehicles on the road have a lot to be desired !

Unfortunately this wil nearly always be the case whilst licensing is in the hands of local councils. In London every vehicle is inspected yearly by the appointed carriage office company and has to undergo 2 x six monthly m.o.t.s. Most genuine agencies also check weekly, for cleanliness etc ,and to ensure that all relevent documentation is in order.Londons legitimate private hire fleet is probably the best in the country, and by comparison with other cities the youngest.

All,

Thanks for you coment RED Devil and its good to see that a councils are making an effort.
I think that Mr Akram (chairman of the Pendle Taxi Operators' Association) needs to justify what he has said about the problem is "country wide".

What is his proof or is it in his opinion ? If its his opinion then he needs to retract it his statement !

I think Mr Akram that he's just sticking up for his fellow brothers and 'jibbing' us all off !

I drive a P reg vauxhall vectra.
It has 2 inspections every year and passes every time.
I have spent less than 85 pounds in 3 year on repairs and 2 sets of used tires a year at £10 per tyre means I can do minimum work as i own nothing for a car.
The interior is ok and gets a free valet every 3 months.
It makes the same money as any other taxi but costs less to run.
Passengers do not even know the age of the car as I have a private plate on it *** HAK
