Several times just recently i have been asked why i have not posted on web sites.Well the answer is that i refuse to enter an arena for which testostorone seems to be required.recent posters have in my opinion lowered the standards of disscussion to that of a cess-pit,which has in no way helped our trade, nor given the idea of being more professional.I respect the right of free speech and the right to dissagree with one another, but guys you have in my opinion abused this right and gone too far...Eery one has ideas from time to time and we should consider all comments and encourage these ideas if we agree ,i have as you may be aware advised that some ideas would have gained more support if discussed before actioning this trade needs the support of all hackney and private hire drivers in order to flourish....let me inform you of the London branch of the GMBPDB recent achievments benefitting drivers; exemption from congestion charge, red route exemtion ,diaebettes restrictions. eye sight restrictions,door- to door campaign. driver safety campaign (national) drivers education campaign (national) invited onto the mayors transport advisory committee. assisted in the making of documentary by BBC regarding assaults on drivers. meeting state ministers ,obtaing legal representation for drivers through barristers and getting licences back.plus meeting the regulators and pressing for driver shields and cctv to be provide at no cost to drivers.I COULD GO On, but wont .Finally should those wishing to engage in guerrilla tactics regarding GMB misrepresentation wish to continue would you be so kind as to post your most recent achievments as i have done.........regards to you all Don |

well said don, your right the gmb have made great steps and opened many doors for all drivers who care to become involved or represented, unfortunatley the hard work of the gmb will allways be knocked by them who dont know how the system works or who think they can make a difference on there own, but will still reap some of the benefiects your movement achive, unfortunatley debates will allways lead to dissagreement |

Yes el presidente, you outline the achievments in reality over the last 5 years, i regard them as significant and so do the beneficiaries. Lets take today first task ensure one member has received his £3269 pounds for industrial injury, then post 10 membership forms to drivers attracted by sick pay scheme. Then to Tri- Star quick meeting on a few small issues, agree course of action on Driver having problems with PCO.Fisld 5 calls with various probs ranging from Parking2victimisation, and assist Controller with a TUPE issue [transfer of undertakings protection of employment] agree after discussion on withdrawal of post Return of????, recive confirmation of my Election as delegate to GMB Congress 2008. Talk with Searchlight re a few unsavoury characters! Plan actions for Regional Council Saturday.Confirm my attendance at event at Farnborough tomorrow to Road Test and judge vehiclesfor Chauffeur Industry [Rolls Phantom, Bentley, Maybach,Audi, MercS and E class Jag 2.7 diesel and v8 turbo etc.]Discuss possibble political assistance to ex member of Army being sorted by an unruly judge. Agree with LPHCA PHB NPHA that proposed date for Transport committee March 17th ]St Patricks day is inappropriate] and agree alternative date. Stop car on way home to take call from Driver facing eviction from his flat advise him of legal benefits. Oh i forgot spend 30 mins on phone with Potty Mick Pollard agree to get on the pi$$ in April and do some business. Just another ordinary day, DonGlave Steve McKenzie Mick Hildreth etc will have had similiar days no doubt. Its called organisation assisting our members prospective members. Why do we do it because we belive in building an organisation that will benefit ous members and the industry, not only for us but those that follow us one word explains it UNIONISATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| I have a challenge for all serious thinkers who want to progress the unification of our trade, look around you and find like minded drivers in your area then discuss forming your own branch of the GMBPDBas then you can see just how much dedication and sheer hard work it takes.Always remember that all drivers are independent operators and can normally deal with minor problems, however when it goes tits up isnt it nice to have a major player in your corner.Perhaps you are a member of a drivers association such as the Dundee taxi assc; who took on the council only to find themselves out manouvered by a renegade, the end result they lost, and have now dissbanded, now had they have had the strength of the union behind them perhaps the outcome may have been different,or in another town the airport has introduced another charge to already overburdened drivers, could the union have helped? possibly.so ask your self !whats to be lost by being a member!!! |

With no disrespect to you ..... much of what you posted has been achieved
many years ago by different areas.. I congratulate you in finally starting to catch up.... and wish you well in any of your endeavours that protect drivers' safety... but I really do think you need to realise that it is you that is 20 years out of date

| There are none so blind as those who do not wish to see. For Christ sake the hand of friendship is being held out here so as we can work together to improve the lot of the drivers and the industry as a whole. |

I have read the comments ,and would ask this question, if you have been instumental in bringing about change to the industry, why are we still in dissarray and remain split as a trade (20 years of going where )The gmb pdb are the new boys on the block, but have acheived so much in a relativly short time.your comments need clarifying ?do you represent DRIVERS or are you and your organisation funded and driven by proprietors. The GMBPDB are the only driver friendly union, however all proprietors are welcome to sign up and benefit in the same way,we would hope that you sign up drivers as well as this trade needs to have both parties to operate.London has between 40.000-50.000 drivers and the licensing regime is probably the most stringent in the country bearing this in mind our achievements as listed, are trully impressive according to members.perhaps you can post some of the NTAs examples of unification for the benefit of the trade ,this would save us duplicating yours. |

Well getting the BBC coverage, the leaflets being produced and having a word in Ken's shell like re the topographical farce was a start last week.
It is fairly clear that as this will only benefit the drivers the union will be left on it's own to work on this campaign so things will be a struggle. The newspaper articles that received no coverage last week need to be pushed again, leaflet distribution needs to be worked on and there is a possibility that funding could be made available for a course in basic skills that could have a financial benefit that offsets some of the loss of earnings that is always incurred.
Any drivers out there or proprietors or fleet operators who genuinely want the best deal for the drivers who could give us a hand please give one of the union people on this site a shout or contact us via our website at www.professionaldriversbranch.co.uk or www,gmb.org.uk |

| They are having a go at you after one of our own tells everyone in front of the camera he was robbed by a geezer with a gun and a knife and the OB at Greenwich wouldn't even go to the crime scene. A proprietor tells of how a driver was pistol whipped how he had evidence that the filth hadn't even been bothered to pick up. We don't want a re-run of the debate because the fact that the two coppers in the car who the driver flagged down did go to the crime scene proves that there are good and bad as we have stated. But that they are having a go at you over that proves one thing they don't give two hoots about the driver safety other than the fact that for each one of ours that goes down down it is one less rent for them. Don't know what is more degenerate the gutless bone idle wooden tops who get the entire force a bad name or their apologists |

Steve,
Regret I am also stacked out this week and won't have time to give the attention needed to such a delicate matter.
I would also suggest that as the campaign has been co-ordinated by the London members, that it would be far better for the co-ordination to stay in one place.
Regards
Mick |
