BRIAN PADDICK LAUNCHES BLACK CAB MANIFESTO

Liberal Democrat candidate for Mayor of London, Brian Padwilly, is today launching a ten-point plan to put the promotion and protection of licensed black cabs at the heart of his new transport policies.

Brian Padwilly announced his new measures at a meeting with representatives of Dial-a-Cab black cabs in Old Street today [Tuesday].

The top three measures include:
-         Giving licensed black cabs a seat on the TfL board
-         A consultation to license or ban pedicabs in London
-         The rephasing of traffic lights

Commenting, Brian Padwilly said:

“Licensed black taxis are an integral part of London’s public transport system.

“They have to pass The Knowledge test and their taxis are subject to the most stringent safety checks. In return they deserve to be represented on the board of Transport for London and to have certain privileges not extended to private hire vehicles.

“London black cabs are as much of a hallmark of London as the double-decker bus and we need to acknowledge the role they play in making London the best city in the world.”

SOMETHING TELLS ME THAT AN ELECTION MUST BE NEAR,AS CANDIDATE BRIAN PADDICK HAS DELIVERED HIS PROPOSALS ON TRANSPORT IN THE CAPITAL.HIS COMMENTS INDICATE JUST HOW OUT OF TOUCH HE AND HIS PARTY ARE CONCERNING THE  PUBLICS PREFFERED PUBLIC TRANSPORT PROVIDERS IE -LICENSED PRIVATE HIRE COMPANIES AND DRIVERS .WITH ABOUT 40/50 THOUSAND LICENSED VEHICLES OPERATING ON A DAILY BASIS WITHIN THE CAPITAL,PRIVATE HIRE CARRIES MORE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC THAN THE BLACK CAB INDUSTRY,INDEED WE ARE SO PROLIFIC THAT WE ARE BEING IN UNDATED WITH WORK THAT THE BLACK CAB TRADERS  ARE UNABLE TO COVER SUCH AS COM-CAB AND TAXI-CARD.THE RIGHT TO PLY FOR HIRE IS THE REASON FOR THE STATEMENT THAT "THEY HAVE TO PASS THE KNOWLEDGE. I ADMIRE THE DRIVERS WHO HAVE DEVOTED THEMSELVES TO PASSING THS TEST THEY ARE A CREDIT TO LONDON. HOWEVER THEY PROVIDE SERVICES TO  TOURISTS AND CITY TYPES WITHIN A 8 MILE RADIUS OF CHARING CROSS STATION. THE PRIVATE HIRE INDUSTRY CARRY A DIFFERENT CLIENTLE, CAPTAINS OF INDUSTRY,THE GENERAL PUBLIC,THE ELDERLY AND INFIRMED ALL PICKED UP AND DELIVERED  ON A DOOR TO DOOR BASIS AND SO ONE CAN SEE THAT THE 2 TYPES OF TRANSPORT DIFFER IMMENSLY.SO MR. PADDICK PLEASE CONSIDER YOUR POSITION AS VOTE ARE WHAT YOU REQUIRE TO WIN.......DO THE MATHS 26,000 BLACK CABS-----OR UP TO 50,000 PRIVATE HIRE PLUS THE GENERAL PUBLIC DEPENDENT UPON THEM

BUT EVEN HE MUST ACCEPT THAT THE DOUBLE DECKER HAS SEEN MANY CHANGES AS HAVE THE DESIGN OF ALL FORMS OF TRANSPORT IN ORDER TO PROVIDE AN UP TO DATE SOLOUTION TO LONDONERS TRAVEL PLANS,OLD LAWS AND RESTRICTIONS NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH A MODERN PLAN FOR ONE OF THE WORLDS GREATEST CITIES AND POPULOUS
