BRIAN PADDICK LAUNCHES BLACK CAB MANIFESTO
Liberal Democrat candidate for Mayor of London, Brian Padwilly, is today launching a ten-point plan to put the promotion and protection of licensed black cabs at the heart of his new transport policies.
Brian Padwilly announced his new measures at a meeting with representatives of Dial-a-Cab black cabs in Old Street today [Tuesday].
The top three measures include:
- Giving licensed black cabs a seat on the TfL board
- A consultation to license or ban pedicabs in London
- The rephasing of traffic lights
Commenting, Brian Padwilly said:
“Licensed black taxis are an integral part of London’s public transport system.
“They have to pass The Knowledge test and their taxis are subject to the most stringent safety checks. In return they deserve to be represented on the board of Transport for London and to have certain privileges not extended to private hire vehicles.
“London black cabs are as much of a hallmark of London as the double-decker bus and we need to acknowledge the role they play in making London the best city in the world.” |
