03 Dec 2007 9:22 PM Alert

We have cancelled our Nat ctte meeting to meet with our national media and politcal reps at GMB headquaters Wimbledon, to decide on an immediate CAMPAIGN to address the ongoing diaobolical instances of attacks on Ph and Hack drivers nationwide.

We will organise in the house of commons a press conference fronted by our Gen Sec Paul Kenny many of our MPs and hopefully the relevant Ministers. The present situation of savage attacks on drivers must be stopped. A list of DEMANDS of our members will be published in due course. Added to this will be our participation on the workers memorial day demonstration and the possible lobby of Parliament.

The situation at the moment is intolerable, CCTV, driver shields, adequate Police response, training for defusing situations must be supplied without loss of earnings or expense to drivers. No doubt there are many other demands, let us know yours!! Want to get involved? want to be in the House at the press conference join the GMB now!!!!!!!!!!!

He is barmy but he's alright  Tel

The decision to put the NC back to Jan was right in the circumstances

The campaign against attacks on drivers take precedence over all.

Draft leaflet ready any day soon. Meeting with our press and publicity bods next week, Leaflets produced in the new year.

Launch with the General Secretary and MP's in parliament and an EDM sponsered by one of our MP's

Leaflets to distribute. petitions to get signed, MP's to be lobbied.

I'm all for a laugh on here but the time is fast approaching for some serious stuff.

Let's see if others have got the bottle to put their money where their mouth is or will it be down to a handful of us

As you can see this campaign has begun to gather momentum, and will be the main topic at next weeks meeting at the london headquarters of the GMB in wimbledon.Leading members and officers will prepare for a press conference to  be held by the general secretary, Paul Kenny and many of our MPs,and hopefully ministers of state having specific responsibility for safety and transport. In order to present our side of the debate in graphic details i would appeal to all cabbies out there to pass the word and report incidents of violence, lets talk to our collegues who  have been the victims of the above and ask them if they would feel strongly enough to attend the press conference and give the details, if you are a victim, would you be prepared to attend, if you wish to dicuss the attack with myself or my collegues then please ring me on 07956-884-076  or Terry  07958-275-339  This is your chance to strike back at the yobs who carry out these attacks and to get this subject into the public arena . The press conference will be at the house of commons, date to be announced.YOUR UNION will not be the one to let you down, we need your help and support in solving this problem ,if you wish to join- us again phone terry or myself....... regards to you all Don .

Look Mr T This is to important. I'm to the left of republicanism but will work with you monarchist nutters if it means getting proper protection for the drivers. Now if you want to have the argument about Ireland and the bloody war that finished with the good Friday agreement nearly fifteen years ago start up another thread and I'll have the argument with you, any other monarchists and republicans if need be. Now if I'm prepared to do that in my spare time as well as this surely you can put this personal nonsense to one side and leave this thread for those who are trying to build this campaign. I can still remember the runners, pukers, the fights and the sitting there with your heart going at 100 miles an hour wondering what the next arsehole was going to be like on a Friday or Saturday night shift, Our own are getting killed there is a different war to fight now.

No Branch Secretary I don't mean you, and from reading your posts you are a plus for the GMB. In the same way as the South London cab driver.
I meant the Gen Sec of the Minicab/private hire region.

I would say anything he is involved with is something most other groups would steer clear of.
Shame really.

Not hiding and don't really care if you think I am.
Felix was correct when he said the GMB is being held up by the Gen Sec of the Minicab region.
Thats there problem.
But they shouldnt be surprised that many view them as a joke.

Look Freddy let’s cut the nonsense regardless of individual likes and dislikes you and any others have you know what the battle is. Are you going to join in? If you do you will soon find out what is what. Me, El Presidente and all of the others do our best but without the man we voted in to the leading position we would be lost and this campaign would go nowhere. Arranging the leaflets, the meeting in parliament with the General Secretary speaking and MP's submitting Early Day Motions, none of it will happen without him.
There are men and women in the past who I have supported who have had personality bye passes you wouldn't want to spend two minutes of your social life with them but they are bloody good trade unionists so I have fought alongside them backed them in elections and so on.
It isn't about personal likes and dislikes it’s about all of us banding together to do what needs to be done.
I drink with the man and I've seen him in action negotiating with ministers, mayors and some of the serious criminals who infest our industry.
Stop making excuses join up, get active or sit back and do nothing while ours are getting beaten and killed.
This campaign is going ahead with or without you

He asked why no one on this forum was replying to his posts.
I replied as to why.
If he or you don't like some answers then don't ask some questions.
If you can't fathom out why he is treated as such a pariah outside of the minicab GMB then that's sad.
But it's a GMB problem not mine.
