It must be 40yrs since at least since i was in that neck of the woods, on my Vespa GS for a pitch battle with the greasy lot!! Those were the days!
However i was there to meet a Hack Association, and hear of their problems, which were the usual ones! An unresponsive Council issueing plates ad-lib,not enough ranking facilities etc. I told them of the GMBPDBs facilities and tactics which DOSNT involve enriching lawyers!! and of course our fringe benefits many of them were impressed enough to join on the spot with more forms to be filled in soon.They were extremely interested in the fact that the GMBPDBs respond to their memberships NEEDS in a particular area, and that we are not commited to de-reg nationwide, our members needs come first!Outright contempt was expressed at the eejits who attempt to impose de-reg without any consideration for the drivers in any given area, we assured them that in their area THEIR needs come first! It is possible that one or two of these drivers will attend the 12th dec meeting, As most of you know despite requests we dont admit London Hack into membership, however we do outside of London, and strangely enough Clacton is within London Region GMBs boundaries.
No doubt Tendring will be highly delighted that we are now involved in their area, should prove interesting!

And interesting piece Terry as I know Tendring well, I lived there for about 9 years (my family still do) and worked in the adjoining licencing area of Colchester for over 20 years.
You give the impression that you will help to stop deregulation there but I do know that Tendring Council would have a big problem deregulating given that they are already unregulated!

Dear Mr Hopper - Please note it was the skins who attempted to show the world how intelligent us Brits are by bashing each other senseless for no apparent reason. It was the hippies who took mind altering drugs. Mind you even the hippies I knew had the sense to join the union.
Now the Wolverhampton boys and the Oxford lot have proved that Taxi and Private Hire drivers have got what it takes, the mob up in Clacton are joining up I hope to Christ our lot are going to vote to launch a national campaign against the attacks on drivers at our next national committee meeting.
Despite our obvious differences it is clear to me you do care about what happens to the drivers so why not join up, set an example and help us build a mob that the government, the licensing authorities and the ponces who live off of the back of the drivers in this industry can’t ignore.
Once we all get off of our knees they'll run and they know they will

Your proposed campaign regarding driver assaults is to be applauded and has my support.
I will help if I can by supplying any information I know on incidents of this sort, but I can not join your organisation as you hold certain views which are totally at odds to to my own.

Obvious that pre entry qualifications before entering the trade are going to prove difficult in those parts of the country where it is compulsory to have your brain removed

| Its rhe truth being left unsaid that is knackering the industry. We need as many voices as we can get shouting together so as the truth about what is going on in this industry is heard. Like drivers being murdered and being robbed and I don't just mean by the thugs and the totally unsophisticated scum on a Saturday night. Those leeching off of us and lining their own pockets at the expense of those doing the work need to be exposed as well |
