First off let me apologise to everyone for the two above posts I made last night that were subsequently edited.

They were edited because I broke a form rule, the one regarding "flaming" i.e. abuse and personal attacks.

I broke the rule by telling another member exactly what I thought of him, and I will endeavor to see that it does not happen again.

We still have Mr Branch Sec's thoughts though , that is that anyone who isn't a member of the GMB is a moron!

Given that the membership of the GMB is about 600,000 and the population of the UK is about 6.7 million a quick calculation will show that over 99% of the populace are morons, an interesting statistic isn't it?

dont worry about it Hopper. who knows how long he'll be around ?

he's no youngster and i'm sure it must be recognised with in the gmb by now that terry is an hindurance rather than a neccessary tool out in the provinces !

losing members rather than recruiting is what terry is doing on here and else where !

he is the best recruiting tool for other unions and associations out there with his personal attacks and lack of knowledge out side of London.

Latest up-date. Attended a meeting with senior officers of the GMB yesterday regarding driver assaults. The meeting began with a jovial attitude until i produced the figures of assaults for all to see.The atmosphere changed dramatically, silence was deafening and all looked visibly moved by the harrowing stories beging to unfold before this group of hardened professional people ie barrister, national press officer and national political officer.T he meeting ended with a unanimous decision to undertake a national campaign of giagantic proportions including press conferences at the house of commons,a leaflet mail out , and involvement of members of parliment. ... WE have been asked to contact you all and request that the reports of assaults, are continued as so many of you have done THANK YOU keep them comming, and watch this space.Thr GMB pdb will not let this matter rest so if you wish to join us in this fight, consider membership...........regards . I think I can speak for all the members here when I say a big thank you to Mr P for his initiative regarding this matter.

For to long has driver health and safety been ignored, hopefully this will bring the problems we face out into the open and we get the protection we are entitled to.

Keep the reports coming you guys!

13 Dec 2007 9:00 PM Alert

Attended the meeting with the President yesterday and he is quite right in that the professionals who provide the back up in the union were shocked and once you begin to see what has been collected so far on paper it does make shocking reading.

There will be a great deal of work going on now to prepare leaflets, possibly petitions, arranging  meetings, preparing press statements and so on.

We have been asked if it is possible for us to contact any of the bereaved families of any of the nine murdered and/or a driver or ex driver who has been assaulted.

The reason being if we are going to be speaking to ministers and arranging meetings to try and get the publicity to make it known what is happening as widely as possible having the people hear it from those who have suffered directly is the most effective way of getting the message across.

The blood runs cold with fear at the very thought of having to possibly do this, the same fear we all experience on nights at the weekend and bank holidays wondering what the next pick up is going to bring.

But until we get those CCTV’s, screens, panic buttons, proper training and the like there will be no dramatic reduction in attacks like there has been in one town as the president explained at the meeting.

To get this implemented everywhere will mean a subsidy from the government to the licensing authorities to ensure that the poor sods who are living hand to mouth don't have to be exposed to unnecessary danger simply because they can’t afford the equipment or to go on the training.

It is time to put any silly differences we have had in the past to one side could anyone out there please help us with any leads
