Regarding the news story Tony posted about Worcester City Council wanting to make CCTV systems a condition of licence and some of the drivers objecting to this, well I was thinking about it (and before you say anything Terry yes I know that’s unusual for me thinking, you lefty layabout lol).

So why would they object? if my council wanted to make cameras compulsory even though I might not think I needed it myself I would not object, as I know it would be for the safety of others.

Well, a camera in the cab is a double-edged sword it not only protects the driver but also the passengers.

Come on folks, we have all got them on every rank and radio circuit drivers that are aggressive, rude and abusive to customers and over charge. Could this be the reason for the objections?……Hmm.

Oh and by the way, I am feeling militant today hence the change of avatar LOL

Its good to see a local authority taking an interest in driver saftey, However, at £500 - £700 a pop the question has to be asked how the drivers are going to fund these CCTV's. Any Idea's?

Fu*kin hell Terry........cut and pasted from the story.........

The devices could be obtained on a lease basis through bulk ordering'.

The council could fund payments up front', increasing the Hackney tariff to recoup the cost and reimburse the authority.

YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Squires and Hopper,

I have read the story, do you think the drivers will save 10p from each trip and then buy a CCTV? Will the L/A allow the drivers this privalige? Or will the L/A decide a date when they have to be in the drivers cars? I would say the later.

What I was suggesting was perhaps there is another way these drivers could find funding for these CCTV's without it being a financial burden to them. Perhaps they could source funding through their local council, Europe wherever, perhaps they could negotiate with their local L/A to allow advertising to fund the CCTV's.

Politeness costs nothing!

Are you suggesting that I haven't been polite to you BB ????????

The way I read it is that the council will buy the equipment and lease it to the drivers and recoup the cost through there licence fees?

Put me right if I am wrong?

Well BB??????????
