imagine a national standard licensing regime,meaning that you could move to any part of the country and produce the nationally approved documentation, which when registered by the county allowed you to work as a private hire driver ,ok -you might not have a great local knowledge but ,you are equiped with the very latest gps technology. no longer any queries about boundries /rates as all operate as standard, sounds idyllic doesnt it. any comments?

Don, I think the idea ranks along side that of a one tier taxi system. Have a few days off untill you feel better

HOPPER,but what if it raises its head here ,how would any individual driver or indeed any association expect to fight it, you need clout and finances to compete in a war against such a proposal.DO YOU KNOW OF ANY SUCH BODY,i suspect you know whats comming.................GMBPDB winners all the way.

the whole point about voicing an opinion is to move others to debate, as terry often says decisions are made by those that turn up.Well on any issue likely to affect our members it is they that have the final say.The membership is balloted, and the result is that the majority win, and their wishes are implemented,remember "you have to be in it to win it" .This industry needs to unite and put forward rules that are workable and beneficial to all concerned parties not just a select few.The only way to do this is by being at the table,the GMBPDB is the vehicle that has promoted this industry,on all fronts,and has combated the banal mutterings of extreme anti- unionists,in order to enhance the drivers lot.WE ARE A DRIVERS ORGANISATION.
