Thank you very much for your warm welcome. To be honest I now live in Northumberland and work as a taxis driver. My mum and Dad owned pubs in Glasgow and have grown up with the knowledge of certain individuals and sometimes even the fathers before them. My Father was in his 80's before he retired. Glasgow is a bit like London, we are fascinated with gangster stories. I am sure you will agree the biggest gangster in any town is 999. Everyone fears him. On a different matter I notice you are the president of the GMB. I would like to know a little bit more about this as I might be interested in joining. If you wish to get in touch with me or send me some literature, please feel free. We have in our area a local taxis association and in all my years of taxising in this area I have never been approached by them to join. Of course the chairman of this association to the best of my knowledge, it may have changed now is also the biggest owner of taxis. He has well over 100 cars and if you work for him you must vote for him. I have had suggestions in the past for my local council and they have told me that I would need to approach this operator and go through him as I am a hackney driver and he is recognised by the council as the association. Guess what? I am also the owner of private hire vehicles aswell and guess who is in charge of the private hire association. Yes you guessed it. The very same operator. Just to give you an example of how we operate up here. Our local council sent out letters to all hackney drivers telling them that they were about to release 4 new hackney plates for the first time in years. Everyone with a taxis or private hire badge could apply and they would be put into a hat and picked out by the council. The successful winners would have 1 month to put these plates onto brand new disabled vehicles except doblos. All the winners worked for this operator who remember is the head of the taxis association so when they received their plates from the council guess what, he financed the brand new disabled vehicles to the driver thus meaning the w/hackney plates became the property of the head of the taxis association. This year the council has decided not to issue any at all. I could go on all day. Before any taxis association members start to go on the defensive I am only talking about my circumstances in my area. I have read many good things in the past about the NTA and like wise the GMB but I would never consider joining the taxis association in my area as the only way to get representation would be if it was to benefit this operator. I have never heard of the taxis association in my area defending any driver or even having any involvement with the council at any time. They do have meetings at the local pub and pay a fee for the buffet. The only problem is the pub is owned by a taxis operator who was at one time the business partner of you guessed it the head of the taxis association. Who incidently parted company with each other when the tax man caught them and they split their business down the middle. I rest my case. Lets debate.

As this site suddenly become the unofficial site for the GMB ?

it appears that it certainly is effecting the regular users from posting

due to personal insults being posted on various topics

what does the future hold ?????

which way to take it ?

Yes, there is a fine line between banta and abuse that line is stepped over far to often..... IMHO

do we start editing posts or banning users for a set amount of time and if repeated ban permanently ?

its not the route myself or Pete wanted to go down but theres a definite fine line between banter and abuse.

if its not put to rest then something will certainly be done about it, for the good of the users and secondly the site

How about adding a new forum at the top with a sticky spelling out the APU (ACCEPTABLE USER POLICY) this is quite common on other forums.

Then if any one has any doubts as to the way they should be conducting themselves they can go and refresh their memories.

Would be a shame if you had to do that but there you go, here is my take on it……

We are all here by invitation of admin and its like being invited into someone’s home and then having a blue with one of  the other guests, all down to common courtesy really…..inti?

Don for the good of the other users and the site its gonna happen if it carries on.

theres having a ruck on trade issues but getting personal isnt on and isnt acceptable behaviour

especially if one of them is a trade association / national trade union

dont think it looks good on anyone going down them lines....... almost smacks of desperation.

we are all supposed to be grown ups, im sure we all know whats right and wrong and acceptable behaviour
