I've just created 2 new websites and I'm looking to rent them out a pay per job basis.

And exactly how much money per job do you want to climb into the drivers pockets for.

I think your little venture would be fruitless sunshine, to many people are trying to make a quick buck out of our hard work already.

That's a bit harsh.

Just to be clear, I already look after 2 taxi companies. The first had 2 cars this time last year. They now have 20. The other had 4 cars 3 months ago, he now has 7! The taxi companies I work with make far much more money then I do.

And don't call me sunshine, Its very patronising.

I'm looking for a forward thinking taxi company who I can with to grow their business.

To be fair to JB, there are lots of taxi companies I have come into contact with who have wasted £1k+ on a website and have had nothing from it, they are the robbers... or the fools depending on which way you look at it. It is in JB's best interest to make a site that is productive otherwise he wont earn anything.

With regards to a quick buck... It's a nice thought but never that simple, at the end of the day, if you want a website but don't want the outlay its ideal. Some websites will be far more productive than others, but as long as there is a balance its not a bad idea. 

The MOST IMPORTANT question I would be asking is if you took on one of these sites who owns the domain???? Because if you (the taxi company) work to promote a website for 3 years and then the owner (presumably JB) decided that he wants a little more, you would have to pay it or they could transfer that site to someone else with your pre-built customer base... VERY DANGEROUS.
(I'm not inferring anything btw JB, just that would be my immediate concern). I think the expression is "over a barrel" !

But you still didn't say how much ...................... and I can tell you that if you think my response was patronising then I wouldn't read what others may suggest you do.

I will be interested to see how you respond to the questions asked ................... particularly the question relating to future costs if successful.

Your right and thank you for the support. The websites I have created are worth well over £1000 each. My model works on the basis of if you don't get any customers you don't pay me a penny.

My solution of a pay per customer basis is a win win situation. Its also the far cheaper than any traditional form of advertising.

GA. How much money do you spend on advertising? and how big is your taxi business? If your going to give business advice to other people then it would help if people knew how successful you are. Or do you run 1 taxi and just work for yourself?

JB,

I think you have taken my comments slightly out of context... I was saying that companies had "wasted" £1k+ and that the people that had sold them were robbers. I also think your valuation is massively overstated. They are good looking sites, but from what I can see you have 2-3 designs that have been replicated multiple times. Replication of that type I would suspect should take less than an hour or two.

I think you will find GA's view echoed quite a lot but I have no objections to your proposal. It might help your cause though if you did respond to the two quite straight forward questions...
1. How much?
2. Who owns?

I'm not trying to be critical, I think your method maybe slightly unique and as such, to the right company might be the perfect solution... I wish you the best of luck!

The cost is negotiable.

The ownership is mine.

The valuation is actually under stated not over stated as the website are search engine optimized and we very quickly obtain a very high ranking in goggle. Within 6 months the websites will be worth we in excess of £10,000. It is for the reason that I choosing to rent the out as appose to selling them.

That brings me back to my original point.... That is a hypothetical value... How do you realise that potential value? Are you inferring you would have hoped to take £10'000 in rent off the site beneficiary? Because if the site is pledged to a company and in 6 months your are not making the money you expect, or maybe the site is but you are not... with the ownership resting with yourself... there is absolutely nothing to stop you taking that site off the company that have promoted it and you selling it to the highest bidder ... Might come as a shock to someone!

Listen SUNNY JIM ...................... get off your high horse for a second eh!!!!

 

How much does your "service" cost ?

How can I be sure that after investing time money and effort into renting something off you, you will not say "hey GA our original contract has ended and if you want to keep using MY website we'll have to re-negotiate" .................. while at the same time offering the business I have built up for you to my competitors.

It seems that you have either underestimated the business sense of the people in our industry or you just see an opportunity to make a quick buck from my hard work. My business is what I have built up over 16 years ................... and I've done it through hard work and good service.

 

And you pop on here, possibly a 16 year old web-designer, just left school and your trying to tell us how to operate our businesses.

 

Its you that has to sell yourself here sunny .................. not me.

JB, you still havent put a price or % down on here for each job taken off the web site ?

why not give 50% of the site to the operator as an incentive ?

i think GA is right regarding your back ground because for someone who designed the sites allegedly, as you infere it was you that built the sites. you certainly make alot of simple spelling mistakes, and some of your paragraphs are very difficult to comprehend.
it seems as if you right as you would speak. so im guessing your not a native of these shores ?
not that should make any difference but it would explain some of your misgivings regarding how passionate some people feel about the trade.
