Taxi man assaulted in robbery bid
A 36-year-old taxi driver has been assaulted in an attempted robbery in Luton, Bedfordshire.
The taxi driver, from Luton, was sitting in his car in Sylam Close in the early hours of Sunday morning when a man asked for directions.
The offender walked away and then picked up a brick, smashed the driver's window and demanded cash.
The victim struggled with the offender until he was released and the man ran off towards the Purley Centre.
It is believed the offender was armed with a knife as the victim was left with a deep cut across his face.
The victim was taken to the Luton and Dunstable hospital where he is receiving treatment.
The offender is described as a black man, aged between 26 and 28, approximately 6in tall, medium build, wearing a black hooded jacket, trousers and training shoes.
Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident but who has not already spoken to the police to do so.
