hello all,my name is christopher and i am new to the taxi forum.i am a public hire cabbie in belfast and drive a 1996 fairway driver which is in pretty good condition for its age and it drives very well,my only problem is that it leaks into the cab and my feet get soaked every time it rains,the water also leaks onto the fusebox.can anyone give me any advice on how to fix this problem.

Leaks on fairways are quite common. I had a K reg and it leaked like a sieve. The windscreen rubber leaks in the corners and water runs straight into the fuse box causing no end of electrical sagas. The favourite is melting headlight fuses on a regular basis. Its a wonder it never caught fire! I had my fairway 6 years and spent a fortune on it. They are very poorly built as are the TX's. I'd never consider going back to a proper london style cab.
I'd suggest resealing the windscreen or even having a replacement windscreen rubber fitted with copious amounts of sealant . It would be worth taking the screen out and making sure the corners of the frame are sound, and if any signs of holes or seams that allow water to run down them then fill them with a light amount of body filler and then refit the the screen.
I've got a Nissan NX8 from Voyager now and its superb. I've just had the ECU remapped and the difference in economy is amazing! If driven sensibly I am getting 45mpg quite easily, and the engine is like a sewing machine, silky smooth and more like a petrol engine in the performance. Also the acceleration is something else. I honestly cant understand why anyone would want to buy a TX or fairway after having an alternative type taxi. The vehicles are far more versatile and much better suited to carrying luggage on airport runs etc. Why on earth don't LTI redesign the TX to have a decent boot to save carrying luggage outside the vehicle. This is the 21st century and they are still building a taxi that cant carry suitcases in the boot. Its ludicrous.
