Forms are in, CRB check awaited, medical is booked for this week.

I obviusly came onto the forum because the guys on here are obviously keen & enthusiastic about their job. I don't doubt that you all have complaints about the business (as I'm sure everyone does about their job), but in general I would have thought that forums would bring out the best comments & encouragement.

The reason I'm spouting on is because a 'friend of a friend' has already tried to discourage me

Not really what I wanted at this early stage.

He works mainly between central London & Heathrow & is obviously hacked off with it.

He reckons 'You make a max of 200 per day before at least £80 of expenses' & goes on to say 'If you're going to take 3 years out to train in something, then get yourself a degree & look for a job doing something else'

These comments left me feeling a bit flat to say the least.

What do you guys reckon??

Thanks.

Hi there Black Taxi,

You will never meet a taxi driver that is making any money

But let me be candid with you for a moment, I started driving a taxi over 30 years ago and at first rented it.

I now have two cabs, I live in a cottage in the country which is all paid for and savings in the bank.

Sure I have been pissed of at times, but I still think it was the best move I have ever made

Why don't you get a proper job???

Now that's more like it.
A positive response to cancel out the negative one.

Maybe it's just me, perhaps I just attract the wrong sort of people LOL.
A mate of mine is planning to do the knowledge too at the same time, so hopefully we can test each other and give encouragement etc.
When he went up to PCO he got chatting with a cabbie who was renewing his license. The cabbie gave hime loads of encouragement & advice, told him how much he loved the job etc etc. Also told him not to bother with Suburbs license as the All London pays better.

So when I went up there all keen to hand in my app. I was on the look out for someone to chat to too. Parking my bike, a knowledge student pulled up & parked his scooter next to me. We got chatting, so I asked about his progress. He'd been doing the knowledge 'full time' (as he put it), well 5 hours a day, for the last 3 years.

'Ah good' I said, 'You must be getting close to finishing & getting licensed.

Well, he told me he'd only just took the test for his first 80 runs.

Deflated or what??
At least the guys on here have told me that 3 years is about average.
