Men rob taxi driver at gunpoint

A taxi driver has been robbed at gunpoint in Lincoln city centre.

The 24-year-old driver dropped off two female passengers in Wilson Street, before reversing into Mill Road where he was approached by two men.

He was threatened with a handgun and forced to hand over about £100 in cash, police said.

The incident happened at about 0300 BST on Saturday. One of the offenders is described as white, about 6ft (1.83m) tall and wore a dark baseball cap.

He had his face covered with a green scarf and was also wearing a tracksuit top. There is no description of the other offender but police said he had a local accent.

Drivers need to pursue their licensing authority to promote the use of surveillance cameras in taxis.  Whilst it may be difficult to provide good images of people approaching a vehicle on foot, external cameras could be provided so that anyone walking up to the driver's door gets photographed, on top of images of any passengers getting into the vehicle.  At least the trade would be fighting back against the rapidly increasing level of violence.

If anyone wants more information drop me a reply, and I'll be in touch.
