I have a Vectra 1.9 tdi on a 53 plate. Recently it has started "hunting" on tick over. I have had a diagnostic test done, and they changed a vacuum pipe!. The problem is still there. Has any one else had a similar problem. It is one of those irritating intermittent faults that i am worried that will get worse and the car will let me down (on a Saturday night).

Trooper,

Not sure what you mean by "hunting". I had an older (2000 W) vectra that would sound like it was about to stall (which it did occassionally) when sat at a junction on tick over. The revs would drop to about 500 rpm then either jump again or make the car judder/stall... that (when I eventually figured it out) was as simple as the accelarator cable had a clip on it which held it in position. It had come lose so the tickover had dropped. When I fractionally tightened it and put the clip back on properly, it worked fine again.

Not sure if that helps... .

On a side note, I have had 3 Vectra's in total now and when they start to cause you any significant grief... get rid. I do a lot of motorway miles in mine and the last 2 cost me a small fortune once they started to struggle.

All the best, Pete
