In fact the trade as a whole needs sorting out!
You don't hear this sort of thing happening where councils have kept limiting and tight regulation.
Sadly this is the kind of thing we hear about in Winchester which comes back through the grapevine.... It usually involves a foreign driver.... Heresay maybe, but no smoke without fire!
When supply, by too far, outstips demand the quality of service is bound to drop..... to rock bottom!!

It needs to be rememberd that Warboys the serial raper and black cab driver in London was ENGLISH, foreigners or immigrants do not by any means have the monopoly on SCUM every race ethnic group will have an element within it who are anti social criminals , which is why virtually every Nation has Police Forces and Prisons lets drop the XENOPHOBIA NOW!!

Rewriting the entire licensing regime will very likely discussed at the GMB national Congress this year.

It seems that the taxi trade seems to attract "such individuals" (scum?) more than most? Sad as that is.... I'm sure that 90% or more drivers are trust worthy, but there will always be some that will get through the net, trouble is Joe Publique tends to tar us all with the same brush...

I personally completely disagree our trade attracts no more or less [scum] than other industries, surely the scum directors MD's of Banks who destroyed the entire world wide banking sysytem in the name of personall greed or the MP's of all parties on the gravy train or of course that shower in Buckingham Palace PARASITES supreme! surely the only difference is their market for criminal activity?

The enabling of these activities is the prostitution of the media take a look at the broadcasting schedule of the 5 main channels this evening Channel 5 Home and Away\ Neighbours\ BBC 1 Eastenders/ ITV Emmerdale twice / Coronation Street and and guess what all are broadcast NOT to clash with each other, what they do clash with is News current affairs programmes and of course what programmes top the viewing lists the trash obviously. This nation is addicted to trash TV and none of these programmes ever contain reality IE Workers confrontation with exploiters, the solution to their problems UNIONISATION any indictation of their legal or lack of legal rights compared with the rest of E urope. The dumbing down has been successfull the price has been expensive and will prove to be EVEN more expensive when the Tory Vermin get elected this June.

Wealth and the power it holds go hand in hand and those that have it know it only too well, they are hardly going to share it with us, the common people, are they now!?
Obscene wealth corrupts and there is not much one can do about it, except join them if you can.....!! Some do and join those "elite" ranks!
Some through hard work, risk, wheeling and dealing (be it good or bad!) make their own empires, some become philanthropists and the like.... Maybe a guilt factor?
For the most of us all we really want is a decent house to live in, a reasonably paid job and a reasonable pension at the end of it
In an "Ideal World" that would happen, but we know it's not going to and it's all down to human nature and good old FEAR!!
Divided we fall, United we stand.... We know, well I know that, but reality and the will to change it has gone..... through FEAR!! (and the bloody telly!!)

At the end of the day it's how one makes their own destiny

The sort of behaviour mentioned in that article is amazing. Down here in Torbay, if you so much as fart in public the council will cut up your badge.
Coming down with an iron hammer would probably work.. both private hire and hackney vehicles here are all very well-behaved and professional. I would never dream of touting or even dropping off in a rank, and the same is true with all the PH drivers. It's because the licensing committee take every step to ensure people stick to the rules. There is a story that a hackney driver got suspended for a week due to stopping in a bus stop (So in other words, a £700 or so fine?).

There seems to be a lot of focus on nationality in this issue, which isn't totally unfounded. In this country, we have a very professional approach to taxiing, whereas other countries are more lax. It is naive to think someone from such a country would come here and not bring their habits with them. Of course there will be clashes of culture when we live in a diverse society.
