A TAXI driver sexually assaulted a teenage passenger then told her she could have free rides, it was alleged yesterday.
A jury at Cardiff Crown Court was told Clayton McCann’s DNA was found on the girl’s neck, where she claims he kissed her.
Lucy Crowther, prosecuting, said the driver had, seconds before the kissing, pushed his hand down inside the teenager’s trousers, telling her “you’re enjoying it”.
The 17-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the court she got a taxi ride home after a visit to a supermarket and McCann, 46, offered to help her in with the bags.
When it was suggested to her that she had not been indecently touched at all, she said: “I’m positive it happened”.
Ms Crowther alleged: “He was behind her when he said ‘you’ve got a nice bottom’ and touched it.
“He pushed his chest against her back and after forcing his hand down her trousers, grabbed her waist and turned her, kissing her down the right side of her neck.
“When he stopped, he apologised and said if she kept it quiet she wouldn’t have to pay for any more taxis.”
The teenager made a complaint to her grandmother and police were called.
When they arrested McCann, of Heol Waun, Tonyrefail, he said he had helped her in with the shopping but there had been no sexual contact at all.
He has pleaded not guilty to one charge of sexual assault.
Ms Crowther told the jurors: “The issue is for you to decide if was there an assault or not.
“His DNA was found on her neck – how was it transferred?
“You have to be sure before you can convict him.”
