Taxi fares up - but not by as much as cabbies hoped
TAXI fares in Glasgow are to rise by 3.59 per cent from 1 October after licensing chiefs rejected calls for even bigger increases.
Cab drivers had wanted an average increase of more than 5 per cent, and 10 per cent on shorter journeys. But city councillors say the revised tariffs are a fairer deal for passengers.
A request for a rise in the £2 unsociable hours' surcharge, which starts at 12:30am at weekends, was also turned down.
Councillors think late-night city revellers will still use taxis, despite the increase, the first in nearly two years.
