Hi guys,

I'm looking to earn a bit of extra cash and was thinking of doing some hours taxi-ing...

I might be well off the ball here, but I'm under the impression that if Ihad the licence, I could possibly find a cabbie who'd rent me their car to use.

Is this right, or have I made it  up?

If this is the case (if I cant then I may as well knock it on the head as I cant afford to leave my main job, so would need to do the taxi as a second job), what would I need to do to get a licence?

I live in the Trafford area of Manchester and know my local area inside out, but once I got about 5 miles out, I only know the main roads. I've got a Tom Tom though

If someone was prepared to rent their car to me, how much should I be prepared to pay? And would they be unlikely to let me have it on a Fri/Sat night as thats their busiest?

Cheers in advance guys...

Inchy

Welcome to the forum inchy.

You will probibly find someone to rent you a cab part-time, ask around the ranks.

To get a licence you will to get a CRB check, this plus the licence fee in Madchester is £155 I believe.

You will need to get a medical the price of which varies greatly but is usually around £60-£80.

You will have to take a knowledge test of which there is around about an 80% fail rate where you are.

Good luck

How much knowledge would I need?

Would it be the whole of Trafford? And would I need to know the little roads, or just main roads, landmarks and venues etc?

All the information you need to know can be obtained from the link below!

And no, I don't think a caution will cause you a problem.

Once again, good luck.
