Hellow how you lot doing.

OK here is another post on the old top light and for hire light.

Right correct me if I am wrong ( as if you wouldn't ...lol )

Outside your licensing area you can have a top light illuminated with company and telephone number on it ???????
Or is that classed as “flimping ?????? Even if your not plying for hire outside your area.

I THINK a direct illuminated FOR HIRE light will not be allowed to be lit up outside your area.

I know the PH squad have there top lights on all the time...but just because the do does not mean they can ( They can cant they ?

Please enlighten me with the no frills version of this bit of national legislation !!

So come on whats the crack ?

Steve

So no one knows ?

Lets ask a bit more..
If the top light with company name and number is operated by the meter and there is no for hire light illuminated is it breaking the law by having the meter in for hire mode to illuminate the light even though your not plying for hire ?
You know...Just advertising the company with the top light on ....

Come on....where is the brains on here that knows about legislation ?

Steve

For PH, provided they comply with their own LA rules about topsigns/toplights then no problem they are not permitted to ply for hire anyway, however if their actions were questionable they could be accused of plying for hire...eg persistently driving up and down in front of a night club as it closes and punters spill out onto streets.

I dont know the case law but I would bet my bottom dollar that for HC, driving along with your "For Hire" or "Taxi" sign illuminated when out of area could be construed as illegal plying for hire.
Maybe an expert will come on and give us the chapter and verse

Hi,
What would make a HC or PH different with an illuminated top sign ?
Yea the FOR HIRE light might be naughty....but a Top sign ! Is this advertising or plying ?
And if it is switch operated or meter operated would that make any difference ? as your meter would say for hire if connected to a top light that only has company name and telephone number on it.

Sorry for the delay in responding but there is no blanket ban on roof signs for PH or on illumination for them provided they dont display the word taxi or cab or hire, or any similar wording which might make the public think that the PHV was available for immediate hire.

The reason that PH should IMO have top-signs is very simple, customer service!
How can Mabel see if it's her PHV thats turned up if:
a) she lives on the 5th floor
b) she cant see over the cars parked in the street
c) there are loads of private cars picking people up and she needs to pick out the correct one

There is only one objection to PHV topsigns and that is from HC drivers who fear loss of business.
It's unfare to make life difficult for the public because a few blaggers pick up unbooked fares...prosecute them don't make trouble for the public.

Where did I say I knew everything ?
I will tell you what I will say though...I have forgot more than you know.
SO you insist on been a tw@t and having your little digs at me...
Keep it up Terry !!!!!!

The rest of the GMB lads should have you stripped of your position.
The GMB will go further and gain true respect if it has decent leadership and representation.
But for now they have to cringe listing to you and watching you drag them down to your level.

BUT allo allo..thank you for the reply I appreciate it mate.
Thanks

Well if nothing else..I will give you credit for making me laugh Terry.
I speak on here without prejudice towards GMB members...I take people for what they really are.
"Helpful human beings"...Not weather they are GMB members or not.
( Unless they directly argue against me using GMB as there main point )
I mean that would be classed as discrimination wouldn't it ?
I mean Terry I do not care who or who is not a GMB member ! They do not ram the "join now or you will be doomed" crack down my throat all the time.
Mind you..your not shy to use your rule book guidelines all the time..
How does it go...To persuade non-members to join ...
I like the little remark calling me "The Independent"....It gives me real credit for what I stand for.
Thanks.

They should make a film or write a book about this..The Independent rises above the GMB...
It would be best seller.....

But you must admit that was a fu@king belta.....

Well "The Independent"  must go to work ...and speak to other like minded people who will independently raise the standards.
