was in dublin earlier this year and even though they had a good service the cabbies said work was alot harder now since deregulation

now i just came back form cardiff and what a fecking joke

got in about 5 cabs through out the weekend - p^$$up

at the airport the driver asked me how to get to the hotel i was staying at

couldnt get a taxi twice when ordered for nearly an hour during saturday daytime - hardly any out working

going back to the hotel on the saturday night and again i was asked how to get to the hotel as the driver didnt have a clue

plus it seemed every taxi firm had different rates

one time i got in a cab the meter started at £2.00 and 15p incriments

couple of hours later it was £3.40 and 1op increments

on the sunday it started at a whopping £4.00 and £1.00 in extras (same company as the last one) - callout charge and 4  passengers seems the same as here but 4.00 starting rate !!!!!!!

no 2 taxis/firmas seemed to have any consistency

i borrowed this info from another good forum called Fastblacks Edinburgh Forum

courtesy of the original poster who goes by LongshanksED

so who is for deregulation when it obviously isnt in the intrests of the paying customer as its been seen in many places where its deregulated that because of the competition for fares that a large percentage of drivers very carefully pick and chose when to work ie fri / saturday nights etc and at the quiet times of day you cant find a cab as their rarer than rocking horse shite on derby day. a percentage of drivers have to get a 2nd job to make ends meet and cabbying as become a part time occupation in these deregulated areas.

makes you wonder where the NCC national consumer council got their stats from and at who's calling.....??????? as released in february 2007

i would like to know if any trade bodies were consulted by the NCC to check the facts they arrived at before releasing these to the trade etc.

i believe theres something / one at the back of these figures who is trying to undermine the whole trade for some personal gratification or score to be settled. as it cant be for the good of the trade as we keep getting pushed down our throats.

the weak minded believe what they are told to believe, not what they understand or have the willingness to research to find the truth, but that these do gooders want to bury with slurs of lies etc and skullduggery

I think what your referring to is DE-LIMITATION surely all these drivers and vehicles were licensed?

The leading advocates of de-lim are SUSSEX and JD it was these 2 who supplied their views tothe NCC. They care not of the effects of this policy on the individual!

You complain about the fares seemed far too cheap to me. this industry underprices itself, hence LONG hours poor earnings.

The GMBPDB believes the entire trade iin any LA should decide the policies of the industry in conjuction with the authorities, Agree demarcation negotiate with LAs

ORGANISE EDUCATE AGITATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we join the union we will naturally need higher fares

I didnt notice the GMB making any representations to the NCC......although I suppose you could tell us different?

Which industry? Taxis and PHV's are different industries.

LA's set taxi fares, PH Operators set PH fares.

I think he's referring to deregulation......delimitation is a nice word that isnt as bad as deregulation (a nasty Tory word which brings visions of train crashes and hundreds of buses in City Centres).
