I'm planning on being a Taxi Driver (Liverpool) by this time next year but I'm trying to establish whats the best Taxi option for Daytime? I'd ideally like to work Daytime between 6am-6pm Monday-Friday with maybe some light weekend work. Can you guys advise which type of Taxi would be my better option in terms of making maximum revenue from daytime driving? Private or Hackney Day Collar? |

Well if you are thinking of mostly daytime driving how about a solar powered taxi?...Just make sure you get home before it gets dark |

Ok joke aside the forum does seem quite quiet. The I,m not a taxi driver but have looked into it around my area and it has surprised me how costly it is to run a taxi. The NVQ course,CRB check, medical, and admin costs come to about £500. Insurance starting out will be about£1500.The data head to give you the jobs is£85 per week to hire.Fuel might be about£120 per week. Then for myself i will have to get myself a car for doing the taxi job.Have been told that the first 30 hours money you get during the week will be used to cover the fixed costs.Only then will the money start going in your pocket. A long time taxi driver told me he has a Skoda Superb deisel and is very happy with it. |

Thanks for the reply This post has been viewed 77 times (around 70 if you take away our impressions) so it looks like members are reading but nobody wants to give away their daytime earning advice. I have already researched the start-up costs with my local council including the settle fee to the cab company if I chose to go down the PH route which looks like I will. I understand that I will need a few grand to get setup but all new businesses have expenses and as I will become self employed I'm ok with that. I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me if I can earn an average wage by working 6am-6pm Monday to Friday with a bit of weekend work? Do you think £300 take home per week after costs is achievable? |

Thanks Phil - Good to hear there are other newbies considering setting up in my area. ..Keep us updated on how you find your first week. Still wondering if £300 per week working daytime hours is possible? |

is that £300 after everything is paid? if so then its better than a kick up the backside? I am gonna have to work out a minumum earnings per day and stay out till i have made at least that (if ya get me) that way i will know i have earned a decent wage. but to be honest i am prepared to do the unsociable hours, tht way i am getting the people who are going out, or airport runs etc. |

Getsnappy look at this another way.You said you would be prepared to work mon- fri 6am to 6pm.Thats 60 hours if you are going to be happy with take home pay of £300 which yes I must admit is better than nothing at all. With those figures you will be on £5 per hour. Thats less than minimum wage which is £5.80 an hour.I might still go into being a cabbie myself but on the face of it it doesnt look to lay that well once you have covered all your costs |
