I think I have used the wrong terminology saying Derwentside Council Hackney Union ,
What I mean is the union who represents the hackney drivers who are licenced in Derwentside.
Derwentside is located here on this map.
Please paste this link into a browser as I have used quick reply and it does not allow html code to show.

Yea, I am aware that Gateshead have a union that works on behalf of the Drivers.
But I was hoping to join a union relevant to derwentside drivers.
Some of the "Outside unions" can not give thorough help when requested.
I will do some research myself and see if I can obtain any information.
If I find anything out I will post it on here.

The GMB currently has some Professional Drivers Branch members in Derwentside evidently! they come under GMB northern region, for more info Contact Mick Pollard on 07852 253 572 or GMB NORTHERN REGION on 0191 233 3930 ask for Billy Coates or Chris Jukes officers leading the formation of Professional Drivers Branches in that area! I am certain that they will be able to address your local issues. Sam as of yet I dont think they have a Taxi Hiring facility, but they do have an arrangment with Cab Aid where if your vehicle is pranged, they supply a replacement vehicle whilst yours is being repaired, and if not already a member GIVE you 1 years free GMBPDB membership!Feel free to contact me if you like on 07958 275 339, i will return your call at no cost to you.

steve,i think think you are possibly confusing the role of a trade association and that of a trade union.Trade ass"can only get to meet local issues with local officials which involves very lengthy negotiations and very often a total impass is reached.Trade unions on the other hand have high level officers, meeting with the policy makers, ie- mayors or politicians.decicions are reached speedily and
new policies are enacted with little delay. We provide tangible benefits to our members, such as free legal advice on most matters, very important in protecting your license and in turn your familys welfare.I suggest that you contact the DURHAM branch on
01228-521-657 or e-mail durham@gmb.org.uk for further discussion .hope this helps you (branch president professional drivers GMB)

BATUS.IN REPLY TO YOUR THREAD. LONDON IS A VAST AREA WHICH IS MANAGED BY 33 LOCAL BOROUGHS ,EACH WITH ITS OWN SET OF BEAUROCRATS.AS YOU CAN APPRECIATE EACH BOROUGH SETS ITS OWN RULES,THIS IN ITSELF CAUSES MUCH CONFUSION AND OBVIOUS DELAYS IN GETTING THINGS DONE.THE MAYOR OF LONDON CONTROLS ABOUT 1/5th of the bus lane network, KEN, IS RIGHT BEHIND THE PRIVATE HIRE TRADE OWING TO THE INVOLVEMENT OF THIS UNION.HE HAS GIVEN AN UNDERTAKING TO US THAT ACCESS TO THE BUS LANES THAT COME UNDER HIS CONTROL WILL BE A PRIORITY,THE REMAINDER OF BUS LANES ARE ADMINISTERD BY DIFFERENT POLITICAL PARTIES,WHOSE ELECTED COUNCILLORS ARE COST CONCIOUS AND SEE A REDUCTION OF REVENUE IF THEY GRANT BUS LANE ACCESS TO OVER 40,000 PRIVATE HIRE VEHICLES.IT WOULD BE WONDERFULL IF WE HAD TO DEAL WITH ONLY ONE LICENSING AUTHORITY,AND ONE POLITICAL PARTY....I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU TO UNDERSTAND THE UNIQUE SITUATION OF LONDON. REGARDS.

so cant you think for yourself and pre-empt up and coming problems, you must of known straight away once the bus lanes were formed even if 20 years ago you or your predessors must of realised what the bus lanes were going to cause to your members...... its called thinking....planning and.....pre-empting problems before the escalate....... sucking eggs cums 2 mind

David access to bus lanes was for PH obviously not negotiable until it was licenced, that process has now been completed. So now we have the Congestion Zone, and soon Red Route issues sorted! Bus lanes of which Ken controls 20% quite obviously present a more complex problem. all boroughs in London are represented on the ALG Ken will support us with this Org, and no doubt the minister for London will be sympathectic, we and by we i mean the Private Hire Board believe that if Ken is returned next Maythat within 2 years Londons entire Bus Lane network will be accessible to PHV, already some research involving TFL and the PCO has revealed PH would have little impact on the Bus Lanes, and they accept that our PASSENGERS should not be discriminated against! Some Lib and Tory boroughs accept our arguments on this issue, the only opposition is from Hack, the Bus lobby, and some bureacats! Our industry cant lose this issue. I will of course be presenting our case PERSONALLY to Ken and Tessa Jowell Minister for London, coincidentally both of whom were once in my ward Labour Parties and Cllrs! EDUCATE EDUCATE EDUCATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David seeing as we only formed this branch of the GMB in 1999 your comments seem rather stupid, surely if one could fortell events as
far ahead as 20 years we would all be multi-millionares,however when you examine the acheivments of this branch in its short history
you should realise that we mean business.bus lanes were originally restricted to all traffic including london hacks, until representatives
argued the case.In answer to your suggestionthat our predessesors should have been aware,(THERE WAS NONE) how big an egg do you want to suck!!! by the way please post the lottery winning numbers for this week, for the benefit of all cabbies,as my crystal ball is in for service.te-he

think he was meaning as things happen such as bus lanes coming in, you should of known about the consequences for your members and tried to stop it happening there and then. not years later
