Paramount Performance is offering a plug and play economy unit that will reduce the fuel consumption of an LTI TX4 taxi-cab by up to 10%. For an annual mileage of 30,000 this equates to a potential saving of circa £500 per cab, per year, or almost enough in one month for an owner operator to drive FOC from London to Newcastle. The savings per fleet over the whole life of its cabs should therefore be enormous.

Paramount has exclusive rights to sell the uniquely-developed product throughout the south of England, not least in London which alone has almost 20,000 black cabs - an increasing number of which are the current TX4 model. Equipped with Euro IV-compliant VM Motori R 425 diesel engine, a standard TX4 averages 25.0 to 35.0 mpg in and around the city.

The magic box can be purchased by mail order, takes a maximum of 15 minutes to fit, costs just £299 plus VAT and comes with a four-week money back guarantee. The system can be readily transferred from an existing cab to its successor, so the initial investment can be amortised over many years and several vehicles.

Said Paramount’s Managing Director Paul Busby, “With the cost of diesel reaching ever new heights, every minute reduction in fuel consumption is money back in a cabby’s pocket. If you can find the bonnet pull, you can fit our economy device – it’s that simple. From the minute it’s plugged in, you are saving money without any loss in performance. High mileage drivers will pay for the device in no time at all, after which their annual savings will be potentially phenomenal. For owners of big fleets, it will be like Christmas all the year round.”

For those that want their cake and eat it, Paramount does a version of the same unit that offers an increase in power and torque, combined with a slightly more modest improvement in economy.

Further details of the Paramount plug and play TX4 economy devices can be found at paramount-performance.com. Based in Slough, the company can supply similar economy systems for 4x4s, vans and HGVs, some of which offer savings of up to 20%.

The company also markets performance tuning packages and related accessories for a whole range of road and race cars including Minis, Aston Martins, Jaguars and Porsches, and operates a 2400bhp, 4-wheel drive rolling road - one of the most powerful and technically advanced in the country.

Collins Performance in Congleton do a remap of the diesel ecu that improves the economy and increases the poer fo the engine by around 30bhp. www.mongooseexhausts.com I've just had my Nissan Primastar done and the improvement is quite dramatic. The engine is far smoother and performs considerably better. I was struggling to obtain anyting above 29mpg before, now its regularly 37 and above. 45mpg is easily done on the motorway at a steady speed. Theres no need to have a plug in device in the vehicle, its all in the original ecu. £300+vat for the conversion.
